Internet Family [2004 01 13]
End-User Application [Media: Digital photography, Internet connection]
The eye sees what it wants to -- surveillence
included.
This piece explores voyeurism and increased web
usage by means of an end-user application run
over the internet. Technically, this piece
consists of two images with random offsets. An
image downloaded from a
French site
cataloging a
festival
this past summer and a moving red frame drawn on
top of the image, leading the eye. There is an
occasional pause as each image loads. There is
no pattern to the image chosen or the position
of the red frame, but each time the image
pauses, it infers to the user that a target has
been found.
Ideally, this application will be expanded to
take completely random images from the internet,
with some amount of user control, mainly in the
form of 'desired' subject matter or focus.
However, absolute control will remain beyond the
user.
